HOME WORK POLICY

HOME WORK POLICY

Homework encompasses a variety of activities that support children’s learning. We believe that the emphasis should be on quality of learning, rather than the amount of time that is spent on homework activities.

RATIONALE FOR HOME WORK

Homework can add much to a child’s development, as stated in the 1997 White Paper, ‘Excellence in Schools’, home work was seen as an essential part of education. We recognise children benefit from the mutual support of parents and teachers in encouraging them to learn both at home and in school. One of the aims of our school is for children to develop as independent learners and we believe that homework is one of the ways in which children can acquire this skill. We believe that children develop their skills, interests and talents to the full when they make the maximum use of the experiences and opportunities available to them.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

To help pupils develop the skills of an independent learner.

To establish a home-school link to support the child’s learning.

To consolidate learning done in school

To allow children to practice skills taught in lessons.

To help children develop good work habits.

TYPES OF HOMEWORK RECEPTION

Books are sent home for parents to read to/with the children.

We will continue to give children weekly Literacy and Numeracy activities and more independent tasks to complete.

Reading and internet research around topics covered will be encouraged as part of developing the skills involved in being an independent learner.

Activities that will aid the effective development of the child

PUPILS WITH ADDITIONAL NEED

Homework activities are differentiated, thereby, giving the child every opportunity to achieve success. We also try to ensure that the activities are varied and do not always require a written response.

THE ROLE OF PARENTS

Parents have a vital role to play in their children’s education and homework is an important part of this process. We ask parents to encourage and support their child to complete the homework activities set, in a calm, quiet environment. Parents should praise children for their efforts and encourage them to complete as much of the activity as possible without causing frustration.

MONITORING AND REVIEW

Our Governing Body may at any time request a report on how homework is organized within our school. Planning is reviewed at regular intervals to ensure adherence to the policy.

About Us

The name we carry is not accidental. “Wholesome Identity” is our founding conviction — the belief that true education must attend to the whole child: the intellect that hungers for knowledge, the character that must be anchored in values, the spirit that must be ignited with purpose, and the identity that must be rooted so deeply in self-awareness that no wind of mediocrity, peer pressure, or societal confusion can ever uproot it.
